The sixth edition of the Manual of Orthopaedics continues the recent trend of altering the content and the format to be of greater use to a wider audience of students and practicing physicians. This is the second edition which uses this title, which was changed from the Manual of Acute Orthopaedic Therapeutics with the fifth edition. The title change reflected a new direction for the manual. The introduction will conclude with a list of new features in the sixth edition. It is worthwhile to review the history of this useful spiral notebook to place the continuing changes within the context of history.
